Praveen Pankajakshan is the Vice President, Data Science & AI at Cropin, an Agtech pioneer that has developed Cropin Cloud, the world's first industry cloud for agriculture. He has more than 20 years of experience in the areas of signal and image processing, pattern recognition, and machine learning in a variety of domains including agriculture, energy, power and utilities, life sciences, and healthcare.

At Cropin, Praveen leads the Cropin AI Labs team that focuses on combining Earth Observations and AI Science to reimagine agriculture and enable sustainable usage of land and resources. He is leading a team of earth observation scientists, data scientists, agronomists and AI innovators at Cropin with a mission of converging state-of-the-art technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, and remote sensing, to bring a positive impact on the lives of farmers. Praveen is also responsible for collaborating with academic institutes and technology partners to drive co-innovations in this space.

Prior to Cropin, Praveen was Principal Data Science Manager, India at Corteva Agriscience (formerly Dow-DuPont Agriculture) leading the Data Science and Machine Learning team in Hyderabad. Previously, he served as a Data Analytic Scientist with Shell Technology Center Bangalore, and as a Researcher and Technical Manager at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Bangalore.

Praveen is currently a visiting faculty at AMMACHI Labs, which is an academic lab and research center at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham that brings an interdisciplinary approach to addressing societal challenges. He is currently advising Master’s and PhD level students and mentoring other Bachelor’s degree students. He is also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

Praveen has worked as a postdoc and researcher at the Pasteur Institute, Paris. He has a Ph.D. in Control, Signal and Image Processing from Ariana, a joint research team of INRIA, CNRS and UNS INRIA; a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University; and a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. Outside of work, he is passionate about biodiversity and adopts natural and organic practices at his farm. He is a certified Heartfulness Meditation trainer.
